Specializing in derivatives and copy trading, the exchange grew into one of the world's leading platforms by trading volume, among the top 3–5 globally.

December 26, 2024: Bitget announces the merger of BGB with the Bitget Wallet Token (BWB, previously a separate DeFi wallet token) — BWB holders' tokens converted to BGB at roughly an 11.68:1 ratio, after which all BWB was burned.

December 30, 2024: 800 million BGB (40% of total supply) is burned — largely from core team holdings — reducing total supply from 2 billion to 1.2 billion.
The BWB-BGB merger and the large burn that followed coincided with a significant price rally — BGB reached an all-time high in those same days, even as the broader crypto market was experiencing significant liquidations.
