World Liberty Financial

WLFI

WLFI is the governance token of the same World Liberty Financial (WLF) company whose USD1 stablecoin was covered in detail in Category 4 (Stablecoins) — the company's founding background (the Trump family, Zach Witkoff, its September 2024 launch) is covered there and not repeated here. This chapter focuses specifically on the characteristics of the WLFI TOKEN itself, which is an entirely different asset from USD1.

  • Fall 2024 – mid-2025: a public token sale in two rounds — the first priced at roughly $0.015, the second at roughly $0.05.

  • The token was initially non-transferable (“soulbound”) — it could not be sold or traded on secondary markets, usable only for governance (voting).

  • July 2025: a community vote opens up token transferability.

  • September 1, 2025: WLFI actually becomes tradable on major exchanges — the real beginning of its market price history; only roughly 20% of the full 100-billion supply (24–25 billion tokens) became liquid at that point.

  • Supply distribution: 38%+ reserved for community/ecosystem incentives, 33.5% for the team (under strict vesting); a “Lockbox” system limited early investors' and the team's immediate access (initially only 20% of their holdings, with the remaining 80% locked).
